SAN FRANCISCO—With Bluetooth low energy, the latest offering from Dropcam, called Dropcam Pro, can be made the hub of a connected home, the company announced Oct. 10. It can be set up from an iOS device.
The newly released model features high quality video, a wider view and pinch-to-zoom features, according to the news release. Pro also has better audio than earlier versions and it supports dual-band Wi-Fi. The camera recognizes motion patterns and activities, as well, the release said.
“At its core, Dropcam is a software and services company,” said Greg Duffy, Dropcam founder and CEO, in a prepared statement. “That means Dropcam gets better over time with hassle-free automatic updates to the camera, cloud service and apps.”
Dropcam makes Wi-Fi video monitoring cameras with cloud service. Its products use bank-level security encryption and feature streaming, motion and sound activity alerts, night vision and two-way talk, according to the release. By utilizing the optional cloud recording service, customers can view footage stored for the past seven to 30 days.
