Richmond Alarm is a full-service alarm company, founded in 1947, based in Midlothian, Va. The company monitors about 30,000 accounts from its own monitoring center—two-thirds of which are wholesale. Annette El-Jor recently joined the team as its operations manager, in charge of the technicians, service, installations, fire inspections, and inventory control. In early January, Security Systems News asked her five questions.
Are you from Virginia originally?
I am, yes. I've been here all my life.
What do you like about where you live?
Not the weather, that's for sure. I guess it's just what I'm used to and my whole family's here. I think it's just part of being brought up and raised here, that it's hard for me to go anywhere else.
What do you do in your free time?
I have four children and two grandchildren. My children perform and I'm very involved in the school. I'm helping them with the performances, so I spend a lot of time at the high school. They are in show choir and theater.
What's something your co-workers might not know about you?
Probably that I lived overseas in Lebanon for three years. … My husband is from there and he started a business over there.
What's the best movie you saw in 2015?
The Intern, that was really good … with Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro. I like movies that have a meaning to it, and it was nice how you saw personalities start, and how the connections of friendships of two very different people grew at the end.
