Sean Flint joined Convergint in May of 2016 as senior vice president, Eastern operations. Originally from Massachusetts, he has lived in Rochester, N.Y. since 1998. Security Systems News caught up with Flint and asked him five questions.
Are you married? Kids?
I am married and have three daughters, 32, 29 and 27, and two grandchildren with two more on the way.
What are some of your hobbies?
My passion is golf and I am an avid weekend golfer. I love sports in general, and consider myself a passionate Boston professional sports fan. We have had a nice run, so it has been fun.
How did you first get started in the industry?
I grew up in central Massachusetts, five minutes away from a company called Simplex, which is primarily known as a fire alarm company. I started in 1988 and spent the better part of 21 years there. As the company continued to mature it got more and more into the security business, and as a result I became more and more familiar with it.
What do you like most about the industry today?
One aspect that is exciting is that technology is always evolving. Being a part of a company like Convergint, we are able very quickly adapt to those ongoing changes in the evolution in the industry, stay out in front of it on behalf of our customers, and provide solutions that they need, not only in their current state, but more importantly, provide leading edge technology and solutions.
Have you read any good books lately?
One book that stands out for me is The Founder's Mentality by Chris Zook and James Allen. Tony Varco our VP of Security and one of Convergint first colleagues gave this book out to the entire leadership team and illustrates why the company has been growing and so successful for so long—its adherence to a strong company culture and its founding values and beliefs.
