Jack DeMao, CEO of Electric Guard Dog, joined the company about nine years ago. “I am attracted to opportunities that require big change,” DeMao said. “With Electric Guard Dog, there was such a growth opportunity it required a lot of investment in order to be able to grow … the way it should grow. That kind of thing excites me.” In late October, Security Systems News talked with DeMao about how he protects his home.
What kind of system do you have?
[The] panel is made by 2GIG. My wife and I each have fobs to turn the system on and off. We only use it for security—we don't use it for lighting or heating or anything else at the moment. [Though] we have those options. I also have the option of using a HomeLink to actually activate it from my car.
Why this particular setup?
The fundamental driver is preventative. Being in the security business I understand the things that can go wrong in life and I felt that it was just a good preventative measure. I also travel a fair amount and it increases my wife's feeling of security when I'm away and my sense of her security when I'm away.
What is one aspect of your security system that you wouldn't want to live without?
We've got a two-story house, and the backside of the house is in a relatively quiet area, and I like the feeling that those entry ways are secured each night. So, I guess I'm more worried about bad guys attacking from the back of the house than the front.
Where do you see security going next? What are some big trends?
I think combinations with home automation and security make the most sense.
