Luciana Harrison, who has been in the industry for almost 10 years, has seen many different sides to the industry. She first worked for a manufacturer of home security systems, then in the sales portion of contract monitoring, followed by her current role, working with Monitronics' dealer program.
“I've been extremely lucky. There's a lot of people in the industry that don't really get a chance to see all of those different sides; and all of the opportunities have kind of presented themselves to me it's just been perfect timing,” Harrison said.
“I got into [the security industry] right after college. One of my college roommates was working for the first company I started off with, a company called LaserShield. They were a plug-and-play home security system that was sold at retail,” she said. At LaserShield, Harrison started in sales and quickly became a manager. LaserShield's systems are monitored by Rapid Response.
Harrison then worked with Rapid Response. “I got a lot of training on the contract monitoring aspect of the security [industry] through Rapid Response,” she said, including central station operating, IT, data entry, and dealer support, she said.
About five years ago, Harrison started working with Monitronics. As the regional sales manager for the east coast, Harrison educates residential alarm dealers about the benefits of partnering with Monitronics. “I go to different state trade shows, work with different manufacturer reps, just to build those relationships,” she said.
Job fairs could be a good way for security companies to recruit more young professionals, she said. Additionally, the industry has a lot of different aspects to it. “Any facet of business, any major that you decide to take in college, you can use toward this industry, whether it's advertising, marketing, sales, going over to the technology side,” she said.
