SecurTek acquires new accounts in Manitoba

YORKTON, Saskatchewan—SecurTek Monitoring Solutions has acquired 1,400 customer accounts from Manitoba-based Priority Alarms in a deal worth $715,000, SecurTek announced on Nov. 6.

SecurTek, based here, provides intrusion, video, access control and medical monitoring services across Canada. The company has three central stations: in Yorkton, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and in Aurora, Ontario.

SecurTek President Barry Rogers said Priority Alarms had been in business for more than 25 years, with most of its accounts in the Winnipeg area where it was based. Eighty-five percent of the accounts in the new acquisition are residential, with 15 percent commercial.

The new accounts will be serviced by SDS Security, a SecurTek dealer that is also based in Winnipeg, according to a SecurTek news release. The company partners with 150 independently owned firms through its dealer program.

Ron Styles, president and CEO of SaskTel, SecurTek's parent company, said in a prepared statement that the Priority acquisition “ensures SecurTek is well-positioned to thrive in the monitoring industry's competitive market while returning profits to SaskTel.”

SecurTek acquired the accounts of Alberta-based Intercept Security in May in a deal worth $2 million. As for additional deals in the pipeline, Rogers told Security Systems News “we're in negotiations for a couple of smaller acquisitions, but nothing I can chat about right now.”

Rogers said SecurTek experienced “slow and steady” growth throughout 2012.

“It hasn't been anything exceptional from a growth standpoint, organic or acquisition-wise, but we've definitely grown our account base this year and continue to look forward to more growth in 2013,” he said.
