SIA names Bobby Prostko as Data Privacy Advisory Board chair

SILVER SPRING, Md.—The Security Industry Association (SIA) has appointed Robert “Bobby” Prostko, Allegion chief privacy officer and deputy general counsel, to serve as the new chair of its Data Privacy Advisory Board.

The SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board – leveraging the collective expertise of industry professionals, law enforcement, security practitioners and data privacy experts – provides information and best practices to help SIA members handle sensitive data in a safe and secure manner to protect the personally identifiable information of their employees, partners, and customers from potential breaches.

Prostko is a seasoned legal professional with a passion for driving business growth through innovation in the security industry. In addition to his current role as chief privacy officer and deputy general counsel (intellectual property and cybersecurity) at Allegion, Prostko serves as managing director for its $100 million corporate venture fund – Allegion Ventures.

With a unique blend of legal and technological expertise, he offers invaluable guidance on matters such as privacy, artificial intelligence (AI), mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, intellectual property, and cybersecurity strategies. He is a trusted advisor who regularly collaborates closely with executive leaders to navigate complex cybersecurity and privacy challenges.

Additionally, Prostko is an inventor on several patents leveraging AI and machine learning technologies. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and computer science from the University of Louisville, a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and a master’s degree in cybersecurity from Brown University.

The SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board’s primary efforts and accomplishments include holding annual conference sessions at ISC West, developing a Security Cornerstones education module on data privacy and developing publications including Ten Tips for Implementing Data Privacy, the SIA Privacy Code of Conduct, Data Privacy Code of Practice – Video Surveillance, A Security Industry Guide to Privacy and video and written resources on Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation and the security industry.
