AMSTERDAM - Philips Semiconductor is among a host of technology heavyweights involved in the development of a new low-cost wireless networking protocol that is intended to become the industry standard for networking automation devices in the home.
Branded Zigbee, the protocol is a low data rate, low power consumption wireless technology that eventually could be used in everything from wireless home security systems, remote lighting and thermostat controls, call buttons for the elderly and disabled and wireless smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
TORONTO - Security manufacturer and installer Alarm Force has posted another successful quarter with its aggressive mass marketing model, recording an increase in revenues of 23 percent and net income growth of 25 percent.
With 30 offices and 100 employees across Canada, Alarm Force has been able to grow to a base of more than 33,000 accounts through organic growth, and without generating much debt, said Joel Matlin, Alarm Force president and chief executive officer.
STAFFORD, Texas - Venture capital firm Sweetwater Ventures is making inroads in the security industry, recently buying North American Security Alarm, a Dallas company that focuses on high-end residential accounts.
Company officials plan to use the acquisition as a platform for Sweetwater to build a national security company.
