How did you get into the security industry?

After five years of working in facilities management and two years as an account executive with an electrical company, I decided I wanted to focus on a specialty area. During that time, I worked with numerous security system integrators that designed, engineered and maintained security systems, and I developed an appreciation for the level of knowledge and expertise that is required to succeed in the security profession. Through my work on projects involving high-end security system installations, I was able to hone my skill set and develop a passion for the industry. This passion led me to accept an opportunity to work with Diebold as an account manager for the commercial real estate market. Since accepting the position three years ago, I have enhanced and broadened my knowledge on many different levels. The position has provided me the opportunity to take on new challenges, such as learning the technology side of the security business. �

Who or what in the industry has inspired you most in your security career?

Diebold's current leadership team continues to inspire me. The team's eagerness to provide ongoing education, as well as their willingness to foster new talent, has helped me succeed. Diebold's ability to deliver state-of-the-art security systems and services allows me to sell solutions that help make a difference in our everyday lives, which is extremely important to me. I'm inspired by the people I work with, both co-workers and customers.

What can be done to boost the ranks of young people in the industry?

Without any hesitation, the answer to this question is to help young people understand the industry and the value and level of importance security adds to every organization. The security industry is an industry that continues to grow, and it is promising to see that universities are offering security systems bachelor degree and master degree programs. These programs will help educate young professionals about job opportunities and long-term careers that exist within the industry.
