BOCA RATON, Fla.—ADT's recent partnership with LG Electronics and Google's Nest is the company's means to “push the boundary” between residential security and home automation with the goal of extending “protection and security to as many people as we can,” according to ADT chief innovation officer Arthur Orduña.
ADT will work with LG Electronics on a new “All-In-One” smart security product and with Google's Nest to integrate the Nest Learning Thermostat into ADT's Pulse product, the company said.
Security Systems News wrote about ADT partnering with Nest in January.
ADT plans to introduce the LG Smart Security product later this year. It will combine ADT professional monitoring and video hosting with a security camera gateway solution.
“It's about customer savvy [in the North American market],” Orduña told Security Systems News.
“We want to combine the security and protection experience and professional monitoring with LG's consumer electronics expertise. There's a set of services that we can now target,” he said.
The partnership with Nest is part of that same approach.
“The key part of that, overall, is that we have to be not only a market leader, but a thought leader,” Orduña said.
“We're looking down the road at user experience. We're looking at the customers of today and tomorrow,” he said. “It's not just a matter of making it prettier, more intuitive, making it easier to check.
“We've taken a look at Pulse, added new apps, making the platform easier. We have a hunger to move forward … we have a new look and feel and it's very exciting,” he said.
Consumers “want it to be easy, one simple feel, easy, they don't want to be opening multiple applications,” Orduña said.
