SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Convergint Technologies, a systems integrator based here, has received the 2013 Mission 500 Corporate Social Responsibility award.
The CSR award is designed to honor companies in the security industry who make important contributions to those in need. Mission 500 is a charitable organization that engages with security professionals to sponsor needy children through the World Vision organization. World Vision is a recipient of the proceeds of the annual Security 5K/2K race event held at ISC West.
Among other humanitarian efforts, Convergint donated more than $730,000 in employees' time and service and materials on its most recent Social Responsibility Day, which it celebrates each June in its communities, according to news reports. Since 2002, the company has contributed to more than 120 different charitable organizations.
This year, Convergint employees raised $110,000 to rebuild a school/church in Haiti. That amount was supplemented by their matching donations program, resulting in another $77,300 for the project. Convergint employees spent five days in Haiti to help with the construction and then helped install water filtration systems for homes and three orphanages.
Michael Keegan, a 27-year veteran of the security industry, also received the 2013 Mission 500 Humanitarian award for his charitable contributions.
The former owner of Watchguard Security Systems, the vice president of security products at Magnasphere, and the vice president of the board of directors for Teton Youth and Family Services in Jackson, Wyo., Keegan has spearheaded efforts in the organization to provide services for children with behavioral, emotional and mental health issues.
Keegan also traveled to Favorito, Cuba last December with his local church to begin the construction of a new community center/chapel.
The two awards will be presented on April 11 at ISC West in Las Vegas.
Proceeds from the Security 5K run and two-mile walk benefit Mission 500. The race is scheduled to take place at ISC West at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 11.
