Kat Tallman was recently promoted to the role of COPS Monitoring's VP of software development, based in the New Jersey headquarters. Tallman has worked with the company for 18 years, initially starting as an operator. In August, Security Systems News talked with Tallman about her new role and asked her five questions.
Are you married?
I am married to my husband Jeffrey. We've been together for 12 years. We've actually known each other since the second grade and he's actually the one that referred me for the job here at COPS.
Do you have any pets?
I do. I have two: an adopted dog named Daisy and a cat named Priss. Our dog is super energetic and just loves everyone and our cat that we have—Priss—she was the runt of our friend's litter that their cats had, and she certainly lives up to every bit of her name.
What do you like about New Jersey?
Particularly where I'm from, it's a very rural community. So, I like being off the beaten path a little bit. And, it's close to everything. I would say that everything is probably a 30-45 minute ride—to get to Philadelphia, you can [also] get to the airport, you can get to the beach. It has a lot of good features.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests?
I am an amateur photograph, I really like taking pictures and capturing special moments, having those memories to go back and look on. I'm a beach-goer. I love going to the beach, any time that I can get off and head down that way, that's probably where you'll find me. I also enjoy fishing. I usually do an annual fishing trip with my four brothers.
What do you like most about being in the security industry?
Because I've been in the security industry as long as I have, it's grown tremendously, and I really never expected to see so many companies of different backgrounds and types making their way into the security industry. I feel fortunate to be a part of it, and that the company that I work with places such high values on people helping people. So, I'm really looking forward to the future and everything that it has to offer.
