Rob Driscoll was recently promoted at Koorsen Fire & Security to the role of director, business integration. Driscoll, who is now entering his 13th year with the company, will now be focused on acquisitions, national account work and contract negotiations. “We're primarily a fire protection company,” he said. “Security, however, has been … the fastest segment of growth probably over the last 10 years or so.” Security Systems News caught up with Driscoll in early April to ask him five questions.
Are you married, do you have kids?
I am married and my wife and I each have two girls. They're pretty much adult children at this point; the youngest just turned 24.
Do you have any pets?
I do. We have three horses and a cat. [The horses are] Arab or Arab-crosses.
What do you like about where you live?
Indiana is a nice place to live. The cost of living is reasonable, reasonable opportunity. There's a lot of things nearby; you've got Chicago, which is a nice place to visit, and Michigan's beautiful, so we go up to Michigan a lot. We also have a second home in Western North Carolina, and we spend quite a bit of time there. [Getting there] is a bit of a haul, but Indiana is centrally located.
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
Outdoor stuff is big for both of us, my wife and I. In addition to the horseback riding, we like to camp, we ride mountain bikes, we do kayaking. … I'm a musician, I play drums in a band—I've played in a couple of different bands. I also play guitar and keyboard and write my own music.
What do you like most about the security industry?
The life safety industry [which I refer to it as], for us, for me, for Koorsen—it's more than just security. It's something that we do to help people protect their property, protect lives—it's a noble cause. … I really like the relationships from the associations and the conferences. People are very willing to share and help each other out.
