Honeywell partners with Opower to curb electricity demand

MELVILLE, N.Y.—Honeywell has teamed up with Opower, a utility solutions company, to introduce new technology that will attract homeowners to programs that curb demand for electricity, according to a report from cleantechnica.com.
The Energy Management Platform is a combination of Honeywell's Wi-Fi thermostat and Akuacom utility management software with Opower's cloud-based application, according to the report.
The solution will allow users to adjust their energy usage from anywhere via a smartphone app or the Web. Users will also be able to view their energy usage, and have access to tips to increase energy efficiency and savings.
