MILWAUKEE—The National Fire Protection Association has awarded the North Shore Fire Department of Milwaukee its $5,000 2015 Rolf H. Jensen Memorial Public Education Grant. The grant will support the department's “Prevent, Prepare and React” home assessment and smoke alarm installation campaign.
North Shore serves seven communities, where a risk assessment showed that the percentage of adults 65 and over was above the national average. Many did not have working smoke alarms in their homes. The grant from NFPA will help the fire department in its ongoing efforts to conduct home assessments and purchase hundreds of smoke alarms for those in need. Recently, the department received a grant from Wal-Mart to purchase 100 10-year smoke alarms; the Jensen grant will enable the department to continue conducting assessments and purchase nearly 300 more alarms.
Named in honor of Rolf H. Jensen, founder of RJA Group, Inc., now Jensen Hughes, the grant is awarded annually to any fire department to support a community fire and life safety education programs or campaigns.
