CARLSBAD, Calif.—Nortek Security & Control, a security and home control company located here, recently announced its full line of new 2GIG IP video solutions for the residential and small business markets, where the company sees a growing demand for these products and services.
“We offer video cameras in our commercial market, and part of the road map was to bring more cameras to the residential market,” Greg Stone, video product line manager for Nortek Security & Control, told Security Systems News. “For the 2GIG residential market, we had dealers asking for video cameras that could be installed outdoors, primarily using just one wire, so they wanted ease-of-installation. We even see the DIY market as another spot to deploy video.”
The new 2GIG video solutions system includes indoor- and outdoor mini-dome cameras and an indoor Wi-Fi camera, as well as an NVR. Nortek says the NVR enables installers to connect cameras and provides power to the cameras to record video directly over the network. One CAT-5 Ethernet cable, connected to either a power over Ethernet (PoE) power-line adaptor, or to the 2GIG NVR, is required to power the camera and receive its video signal.
“With the NVR, you can record locally on-site, whether you have a cloud connection or not,” said Stone. “It is value-leading—plug-and-play—so if you use the dome cameras you can run the CAT-5 all the way to the NVR and support four cameras, and connect it to your computer monitor, your TV, a wireless mouse—it gives you many more options while trying to keep the cost down low.” The NVR also supports alarm inputs and outputs that can be used to connect to alarm systems and other devices.
The 2GIG outdoor camera features 1080p high-definition video capture and IR night vision up to 30 feet, and the 2GIG indoor Wi-Fi camera captures footage at 720p HD resolution at 30 fps.
With a built-in PIR sensor, dealers can program the camera to record footage continuously or only when motion is detected. Both indoor and outdoor models feature edge storage capabilities, which enables the dealer or consumer to install a SD Micro Card (up to 32 GB), and record continuous or motion-only events directly to the camera, according to Nortek.
A free mobile app is available, “for remote viewing and playback of video on iOS and Android devices,” said Stone. All of the new 2GIG video solutions and accessories come backed by a two-year warranty.
