ONVIF announces Profile G Release Candidate for video storage and recording

SAN RAMON, Calif.—ONVIF, a global standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, announced Aug. 14 the Release Candidate of Profile G, the second in a series of releases. The new product specification allows users to search, store, retrieve and play back media on devices with recording and storage capabilities. Profile G can be used with a variety of devices, including cameras, encoders, networked video recorders, video- and building-management systems, physical security information management systems and more, according to a news release.

Global interface specifications with easily identified functionalities allow users to utilize network video technology to its fullest capacity, the company said. "The introduction of Profile G will complete the circuit between live video and the other half of the equation, which is video storage," said Steven Dillingham, chairman of ONVIF's Profile G Working Group and Software Engineer for Vidsys. "This further refines the level of interoperability among ONVIF-conformant products," he added.

ONVIF's Release Candidate system circulates new profiles for six month. The final review and publishing of the profile occurs after the six-month circulation period. This allows technology providers to test products for conformance ahead of release, and prepare to quickly introduce conformant products once Profile G's final version is released. ONVIF expects the final version to be released in early 2014.
