Verkada product leaders highlight command platform updates

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Verkada is introducing several updates to its Command platform that it says will make it easier for its customers to keep personnel and property safe.

Verkada has deepened the integration of Verkada Guest and Verkada Access Control, allowing organizations to grant guests temporary, customizable visitor access credentials. Additionally, Verkada announced several step-change improvements to its access control solution for large-scale deployments, including support for third-party OSDP door readers and two new APIs that automate access control operations by providing programmatic updates to door schedules and allowing users to update the doors, schedule or groups components of an access level from third-party software.

Security Systems News reached out to Verkada and its product leaders to provide more insight.

SSN: How does the deeper integration between Verkada Guest and Verkada Access Control improve security and operational efficiency for organizations managing high visitor traffic?

Jake Leichtling, director of product management, access control: The deeper integration of Verkada Guest and Access Control enhances the visitor experience across all kinds of organizations, with benefits that are especially valuable for large organizations with high-traffic environments. On any given day, maintenance technicians, contractors and job candidates may all need access to different spaces within an organization—each requiring a unique level of access depending on the nature of the visit. This is where the biggest impact lies: the ability to quickly and seamlessly provision time-bound access credentials to these visitors, whether via temporary physical badges or a direct link sent to the visitor’s mobile device, that gives them access precisely to the doors they should be able to unlock during their visit.

SSN: The reimagined search interface in Command introduces new granular search attributes. How does this enhancement impact the speed and accuracy of security investigations, and are there plans to incorporate AI-driven predictive analytics?

Abraham Alvarez, vice president of product management, cameras: We have heard firsthand from customers who tested this in a beta program that predefined criteria make it even easier for them to remember what identifiers are possible to search. Building on these search tools, our AI-powered alerts are one way that we’re making this a reality. With AI-powered alerts, safety teams can set custom alerts for natural language queries like “person not wearing safety vest”—a key feature for industries like manufacturing or construction, where safety compliance is critical. We’re also helping our customers understand patterns and behavior in their organizations with Heat Mapping and Occupancy Trend tools.

SSN: With Verkada’s Command Connector now recognized as an ONVIF Profile S conformant client, how do you see this commitment to interoperability shaping the future of Verkada’s ecosystem, especially in mixed-device environments?

Alvarez: We’re thrilled that Command Connector is now recognized as ONVIF Profile S conformant. This, along with our ability to bring in any camera through RTSP, is just another step toward strengthening the open interoperability and flexibility of Verkada’s cloud-based platform and enabling customers to receive actionable insights from all their devices. We’ve made significant investments to this end: Verkada's broad library of APIs and supported integrations make it easy to integrate Verkada with other technologies and data sources. A great example is our integration with Fusus, which allows Verkada video feeds to be streamed into Real-Time Crime Centers, enhancing collaboration between private organizations and law enforcement.
