SEOUL—Electronics giant Samsung Electronics has announced that hackers recently breached its internal company data, allowing access to source codes of its Galaxy devices, including smartphones and tablets.
“According to our initial analysis, the breach involves some source code relating to the operation of Galaxy devices but does not include the personal information of our consumers or employees,” Samsung said in a statement. “Currently, we do not anticipate any impact to our business or customers.”
While Samsung did not name a specific hacker responsible for the data breach, hacking group Lapsus$ claimed responsibility for the data breach, claiming through its Telegram channel that it stole nearly 200 gigabytes of confidential data, including source codes for Samsung’s Galaxy devices. Lapsus$ also claimed responsibility for the data breach of AI and computing leader NVIDIA in February.
Samsung noted that it fortified its security system in response to the data breach. “We have implemented measures to prevent further such incidents and will continue to serve our customers without disruption,” the company said.
