ALBANY, N.Y.—New York state will spend $42 million on security cameras and other security equipment targeted at cutting crime at New York City Housing Authority developments, according to report from The Associated Press.

The security upgrades will include interior and exterior lighting, intercoms, external doors and gunfire detection sensors, the report said.

Shootings and robberies at city housing developments were up between Jan. 1 and Oct. 11 compared to the same period last year, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says in the AP report.

Some 400,000 people live in city housing developments, the report says.
