OLYMPIA, Wash.—Three thieves made it into the entryway of an Olympia rare coin shop, where they were stopped by a steel door. As they hammered away at the door, the shop's Sonitrol verified audio detection security system activated.
The system alerted Solitrol Pacific's Verification Center, and an operator listening to live audio from the shop called police, telling them about the location of the noises within the shop, according to a Sept. 11 news release.
When law enforcement arrived, one suspect was apprehended immediately, a second was caught after a chase and a third escaped.
Although the store was damaged, nothing was taken.
