Total Monitoring Services to open medical monitoring division

Total Monitoring Services to open medical monitoring division Tim Sproul: Division will open in 2016

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Total Monitoring Services, a wholesale monitoring center based here, is looking to the future, and according to company president Tim Sproul that means focusing on PERS and mPERS.

“We've already built out our central station to house another set of operators just to do that type of monitoring,” Sproul told Security Systems News. TMS is still working on independently staffing it and moving over PERS accounts to those operating stations, which will “definitely happen in 2016.”

The company has sectioned off a 2,000 square-foot space for medical monitoring operations, Sproul said. In comparison, the rest of TMS occupies about 18,000 square feet.

The company has 28 employees now and will bring on an additional eight for the PERS division this year.

Total Monitoring Services monitors about 40,000 accounts from 150 dealers. Medical monitoring currently accounts for about 10 percent of TMS' business, Sproul said.

TMS has monitored PERS in the past, but working with mPERS solutions is new for the company. “Partnering with multiple providers of different PERS services allows us to be part of that network of taking care of the elderly when needed,” said Sproul. He declined to release the names of manufacturers TMS is working with.

Sproul said that TMS uses educational events like “lunch-and-learns” to help dealers sell new services like mPERS.
