Misanthropic

We’re back to talking about artificial intelligence (AI) this week, and unfortunately the topic hasn’t changed much from my last blog, either, as we reckon with the fallout of the Ring/Flock Safety scandal.
I think scandal is the right word given the situation, because calling it an “issue” doesn’t quite convey the severity of the problem, and calling it a “debacle” makes it a footnote in a history book - and it is very much still a current event.

An Honest Day’s Work for an Honest Day’s Pay

I’d say mark it on the calendar, but you’ll find I’m wrong more often than not when it comes to predicting corporate news and my earlier predictions about Latch were wrong, at least for now.
Most of the time when I hear about Latch, Inc. the news is bad, dire even. First layoffs, then lawsuits, a delisting notification from NASDAQ. Really, I didn’t feel like I was too out of line suggesting a buyout was in Latch’s future. But I can still be surprised, because Latch...

Any time, any place, any day. A little Blondie to start things off. Our operators are ready to receive you, and if you hadn’t guessed it’s still a little quiet on the news front here. Everyone’s still in that holiday funk and trying to shake it off. Which is not to say there’s been no news, far from it! CES 2023 wrapped up this past week and we got a good look at the tech lineup for the coming year.
For example, Ring announced the arrival of their security camera for cars....
Security vs. Convenience
August 10, 2022Ken Showers
I’ve spent a lot of time recently thinking about passwords. I mean, who doesn’t do that these days? Using a new streaming service? Password. Changing financial institutions? Password. Starting a new job? Probably a dozen new passwords.
In a recent blog I discussed just how prevalent the data breach has become in our daily lives and how much is affected by it. It reveals our security vulnerabilities all the way down to our habits. That kind of problem isn’t targeted at any...
