FRISCO, Texas—The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a controversial ordinance enacted by the city of Sandy Springs, Ga., that fines alarm companies for false alarm generated by their customers.
The Georgia Electronic Life Safety & Systems Association (GELSSA), A-Com Security Co. LLP and Safecom Security Solutions Inc. were the plaintiffs in the case.

The new Sandy Springs, Ga. alarm ordinance, which is set to be voted on July 18, is alarming many in the security industry as it looks to force alarm dealers to pay their subscriber's false alarm fees and fines.

Atlanta suburb begins fines for false alarms

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga.—This suburb north of Atlanta is about to join the growing group of Georgia cities fining alarm system owners for excessive false alarms that result in police or fire dispatch, according to 11 Alive, an Atlanta-based NBC affiliate.
Sandy Springs' new false alarm ordinance will take effect in the first few months of 2013. The ordinance will require system owners to register with the city.
