Digging deeper at TechSec
July 15, 2015Amy Canfield
Exec ed Martha Entwistle and I had an excellent conference call yesterday with SSN's TechSec Advisory Board. We're gearing up for the annual conference on new and emerging technology, and our advisors assist us as we determine programming.
One thing I can say at this point is that the educational sessions at the TechSech conference Feb. 2-3 will be different from what you've heard over and over again. I attended ISC West and ESX, and the people I met with and the panelists at the sessions...

October 21, 2014Martha Entwistle
Sharon Shaw, 29Client development manager, Tech Systems, AtlantaWhat inspired you to get into the security industry?I was introduced to [my former employer] PSA Security by a family friend. What's kept me in it is working with people who are very passionate about what they do. It's easy to find a sense of patriotism and purpose in this industry, and at the same time it's challenging. Also, as we've talked about in the past, there are not too many women in security. I want to help to make a change...

WESTMINSTER, Colo.—Once you make the decision at the management level to sell managed services, how do you get your sales staff to follow through?

“Compensate them,” said Rob Simopoulos of Advance Technology. Simopoulos called his compensation plan “aggressive” and added that the commission is all...

Making the shift to managed services
January 29, 2013Kenneth Z. Chutchian
The security industry can be just like any other when it comes to transitions, adaptations, market trends or the next big thing. Especially when the next big thing looks a lot smaller.
Integrators accustomed to selling, installing and even servicing big-ticket monitoring systems face a nagging issue. Is recurring revenue through remote guarding or cloud-based surveillance systems the way to go even if the initial sales receipts don't seem to compare as well?
Some industry insiders say it's...
