LAS VEGAS — During a panel at CES this year, ADT’s Gilles Drieu discussed the company’s vision for a future that sees smart devices integrating with home security systems “effortlessly” within a unified and interoperable network.
At the center of those efforts, according to ADT, is connecting two different communication protocols: Matter and Z-Wave.
“It’s not enough for devices to be smart individually,” said Drieu, SVP & CTO, during the panel. “They need to be part of a smart ecosystem.”
Here’s what Drieu had to say about ADT’s ongoing efforts to develop a simple and open smart home ecosystem.
SSN: What would the company describe as its approach to smart home security this year?
Drieu: ADT is making smart home security more seamless, intelligent and convenient. We’re committed to interoperability, supporting standards like Z-Wave and Matter to create a more connected home where devices work smoothly together. AI-powered features, like predictive intelligence and advanced motion detection, improve accuracy and cut down on false alerts. Remote access and cloud-based solutions make it easy to manage security while strong encryption keeps data protected. By focusing on smarter technology and better integration, ADT is helping homeowners stay secure with less effort.
SSN: When can consumers reasonably expect to see ADT achieve interoperability between Matter and Z-Wave in its network?
Drieu: Interoperability between Matter and Z-Wave is a key focus area for ADT, and we are actively working with our technology partners to bridge these ecosystems. While Matter adoption is still evolving, ADT+ is designed to support a multi-protocol smart home where consumers don’t have to worry about which standard their devices use.
With Z-Wave LR (Long Range) technology, consumers can install devices in more challenging areas (e.g., larger homes, outdoor environments) without worrying about signal drops or connectivity issues, enhancing the overall smart home experience. We are also integrating new AI-driven features, like the Trusted Neighbor service, into our Z-Wave ecosystem to provide context-aware security enhancements.
As interoperability standards continue to evolve, ADT will remain committed to delivering a seamless, secure, and future-proof smart home experience.
