Airport evacuated after alarm malfunction

AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport was briefly evacuated Tuesday after a fire alarm malfunctioned, according to an article from the Austin-American Statesman, a newspaper based here.
At 1:25 p.m. a fire alarm rang, causing those who had gone through security to be taken to the tarmac, while those who had not cleared security were forced to leave through the front entrance, the report said. An “all-clear” was issued about 10 minutes later, and passengers were allowed to re-enter the airport.
Airport authorities are unsure why the alarm malfunctioned. The evacuation disrupted security lines and flights, according to the report, and departing airlines were to hold their flights for as long as possible as a result of the incident, according to an airport spokesman quoted in the article.
