LONGVIEW, Texas—A Feb. 11 story in the Longview News-Journal reports the Longview City Council has approved a new ordinance regulating false fire alarms.
Under the new law, every property owner—both residential and commercial—with a fire alarm must register and pay a permit fee with the fire department. The idea is to give each property up to four free false alarms within a 12-month period, according to the story. A fifth or subsequent false alarm within that period will incur a $250 fee.
