While studying criminal justice at Baylor University, Mark MacLeod had a different career path in mind.

"I was studying for a career in law enforcement and somebody from Georgetown University, the deputy police chief, came to speak at Baylor University and talked about some of the job openings, one of which was a systems analyst," said MacLeod. "I have always loved working with computers and took a shot at it; four years later, here I am."

Georgetown University, which has more than 15,000 students, and a campus comprising 10 main buildings, presents a unique challenge for the GUPD.

"My biggest responsibility is overseeing the campus security cameras as well as the alarm management system, which includes managing the video and data coming in as well as working with investigators—anything that is court-sanctioned or subpoenaed," said MacLeod. "I manage our service for both our video report writing systems and anything else that the officers need throughout their employment."

MacLeod was instrumental in integrating the Lenel OnGuard Alarm Management system two years ago, as well as linking with the Metropolitan Police Department, giving the GUPD access to local and national crime information as well as police reports.

He is currently focused on replacing the university's legacy video management system with the Milestone video management platform.

"On top of that I do a lot of daily work on our officer report writing system, going in on the backend and making sure everything is configured correctly and setting it up for new officers," said MacLeod. "I also work closely with our main hub, the command center on campus, to support and assist dispatchers with any needs they may have."
