Kurtis Erdman, recently hired at third party monitoring center NMC as its South Eastern regional sales manager, is based out of Pensacola, Fla. “I'm really tasked with promoting the NMC brand throughout the Southeast,” Erdman said. He called Southeast a “relatively untapped area” for NMC—“The Southeast is really a ripe territory for us. There's lots of business there. There's lots of great independent alarm installers.” In early June, Security Systems News asked Erdman five questions.
Where are you from originally?
Originally, I'm from a small town outside of Milwaukee, called Burlington, Wisconsin.
What do you like about where you live now?
Pensacola's got a great sense of community. It's just the right size. And the fact that it's on the ocean, so you can do the ocean thing, you can do the city-community thing. Or, if you want to do something more rural, go out into the woods, get lost in a Jeep, you can do that.
Do have any hobbies or special interests?
I listen to a lot of podcasts in my free time, meditative, non-fictional podcasts; interesting stories, interesting people, things like that. I mentioned the Jeeping, I do have an old Jeep that I like to go beat up in the mud and the woods, etc. And, I'm kind of a movie buff.
What's the best movie you've seen recently?
The best movie I've seen recently would be Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It didn't let down. Usually sequels are kind of watered down versions, they try to do too much, but I really found it pleasantly surprising and I enjoy it.
How did you get started in the security industry?
When I moved to Pensacola about 15 years ago, one of my first jobs was I was a headhunter, and I discovered that the most marketable candidates for employment that were in demand were alarm installers. So, in focusing on that, I obviously, naturally, made networks in the industry and eventually moved into the central station industry in Pensacola and the rest is history.
