Honeywell introduces IP communicator for central stations

NORTHFORD, Conn.—Honeywell recently announced the availability of two new IP communicators designed to reduce monitoring and service costs for the transmission of alarm data from security alarms to central stations, according to a news release.
The MIP-2 and MIP-2UD communicators connect seamlessly to a security panel's dialer ports, allowing them to report alarm information from any system that uses Contact ID protocol. The communicators can eliminate the expense of phone lines traditionally used for security alarm monitoring, according to the release.
“Although IP communications in the security world are widely accepted, there are still those building owners that want a backup landline just in case,” Ken Gentile, marketing product manager, Honeywell Power, said in the statement. “Even in this scenario, the cost savings of eliminating one phone line is still significant.”
The release notes that traditional phone lines can cost up to $50 per month, and buildings with monitored security systems can realize substantial savings by eliminating one phone line per panel. For owners with multiple buildings, the savings can add up to a sizable amount, the release noted.
“Many dealers have commented on how easy MIPs are to install and configure, and many are approaching existing customers with it as an option for saving money that can lead into other system upgrades,” Gentile said.
