Monitoring center looks to help Spanish speakers

FREEPORT, N.Y.—Emergency Response USA, a personal alert system provider with a monitoring station here, has moved toward a mostly bilingual staff of operators.

“Eighty percent of all our operators right now are fluent in English and Spanish,” company general manager Wayne Wahrsager told Security Systems News.

The initiative started in December, with the company's move into Puerto Rico. It will also help the company better serve its existing Spanish-speaking customers in the united states.

The company has access to translating service for more than 150 languages, it said.

Emergency Response, established in 1981 has 175 employees. It monitors about 42,000 PERS units across the continental United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. The company also offers GPS tracking.
