TeleCommunication Systems completes phase one of Next Gen 911 in Iowa

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—TeleCommunication Systems, a provider of mobile communication technology, has announced the phase one deployment of the Next Generation 911 services network for Iowa.
Iowa is the first state to complete a statewide deployment of a National Emergency Number Association (NENA) i3-compliant 911 system, the company said in a prepared statement. The services network improves public access to 911 through the use of cutting-edge technology provided by TCS, setting the stage for Iowans to eventually transmit text, images and video to public safety answering points (PSAPs).
All 119 PSAPs in the state are now interconnected to the system in accordance with NENA specifications, thereby creating the largest contiguous network of its kind in the nation.
This deployment is phase one of a five-year contract with Iowa's Homeland Security Emergency Management Division (HSEMD). Benefits of this solution include better system control for public safety providers and the ability to “bypass costly legacy architecture and deploy the solutions as systems, services or a mix of the two within any existing IP network,” according to the statement.
